I have stump and phantom pain but mostly in low to moderate intensities.

Only when I have the arm out and no compression on the stump, the tissue dilates and the stump gets congested. That impedes circulation back and venous congestion then causes the arm to get cold, poorly circulated and painful. The only two things that help are (1) wearing a really tight fit prosthetic socket (one of the reasons I like that socket that much) or (2) using a tight compression sock or bandage to compress the stump tissue. It's always been like that and so I have had compression socks even before the wound was healed up.

When I would just hold the cold painful congested arm stump under warm water, to get it to warm up, and try to get vasodilation that way, no help for me. Pain even gets worse. Conversely I can omit any other means to get my circulation better when I use proper compression.
