Mechanical wrist update

General situation:

I have a long arm stump and require a wiggle free and if possible service free quick release wrist that features a hollow center area (which is where my pin / pin lock takes up space).

Road map:

http://www.swisswuff.ch/tech/?p=158

The first version (crown type lock) was extremely simple, it was manufactured very fast and worked very well once one got used to the unique type of lock. I wore that Feb 09 to now and had no p… Continue

Increase the life of your bands

A tip from Brad Veatch of ADA, the developer of the LESA prehensor (not yet available).

A little teflon pipe thread tape underneath the rubber bands on the hook when you replace them will reportedly increase the life by eight times. Brad apparently has data to support this… Continue

Standardized Control Interface for Prosthetics (SCIP), a CAN-based Limb Control Protocol

I've spoken before about the need for a standard for prosthetic/robotic arm (or leg) control, preferably one also adopted by a larger industry. University of New Brunswick Fredericton (UNB)'s AIF UNB Hand Project has settled on a CAN-based communications system, using the established standard for automotive communication. Under the name of a consortium that has long sought to standardize upper extremity prosthetic control, the… Continue

SOURCES OF INFORMATION

Open Prosthetics is our informational site and has links to accept donations. We maintain an Instructables Group, on which completed designs can be posted, and other collaboration can happen. We also have a a Google Group.

We're working on a wiki, where we will post information on prosthetics in general, to include information on the history of prosthetics, and a users guide to what is available.

Too many ways to find out about stuff? Maybe, but use whatever you're comfortable with, and we're sure the good ideas will get noticed.

Pimp My Arm

The place at OPP where users can talk about their needs and desires for prosthetic development, and volunteers can discuss solutions. This is the "blue sky," "no idea too crazy," Halfbakery section of the project. A more detailed explanation is here.

Pimp my arm has sections for arms, legs, and everything else.

More About the Wiki

A wiki is a user-editable webpage. Ours has sections on the various projects we're hoping to get users and volunteers working on.

We'd like to figure out what people need in a toolkit to maintain their prostheses as needed.

We're looking for help designing a survey to figure out what amputees like and don't like about their prostheses (if they wear them at all). Here's your chance to tell everyone what they should have asked you.
